Pyjamas with a purpose, in support of BCNA

Connection & Community is Breast Cancer Network Australia’s (BCNA) annual awareness campaign theme for Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.

Natalie Aardoom, Sussan Managing Director, says the brand has been a proud partner of BCNA for 19 years, raising over $3 million to support the incredible information, resources, and support services they offer.

“We feel this is perfect alignment for us with the strong sense of community we have at Sussan. It also aligns so authentically with our brand purpose, For Women by Women,” she says.

Kirsten Pilatti, BCNA CEO, says it is through the support they receive from longstanding partnerships such as the one shared with The Sussan Group, that powerful advocacy can achieve real change for Australians diagnosed with breast cancer.

“It was a proud moment for us to be part of the Health Minister’s announcement that access to Enhertu – a vital, life-prolonging treatment for those with metastatic breast cancer – is being extended on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS),” says Kirsten. “Until now, Enhertu has been out of reach for most people due to its extreme cost, but now the cost has been reduced from $15,000 every three weeks to just $31.60, or $7.70 with a concession card.

“This is an incredible example of the strength of our network and ability to achieve real and significant change. Without partners like Sussan, who have supported BCNA for nearly two decades, our continued efforts to be the voice for all Australians affected by breast cancer would not be possible. We will continue to strive for further positive outcomes like this one, proving that together our network is stronger.”

Kirsten says every year more than 20,000 Australians – women and men – will be diagnosed with breast cancer. The partnership with Sussan means that BCNA can be there for all those diagnosed, their families, and friends.

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Sussan is introducing stunning new PJ’s and a wellness candle for the month of October, with proceeds going to BCNA.

Natalie says the partnership with BCNA brings to life the impact that breast cancer has on our community.

“We encourage all team members, family and friends to get to know the look and feel of their breasts and be vigilant for any signs of change – there is no right or wrong way – you can check your breasts wherever and whenever it works for you.

“A Breast Check How-To will be rolled out across WomenKindness, socials and email, there will be in-store changeroom decals on Breast Check How-To with a QR code to WomenKindness which has ongoing resources available.”

Kirsten says knowing the look and feel of your breasts is an important tool in potentially identifying breast cancer early, which can save lives.

“If you are over 40, you are eligible to participate in the free screening program through your state Breast Screen,” she says. “If you are over 50, you will receive an invitation in the mail, so book your appointment today.”

BCNA’s 175,000-strong network is formed and strengthened by connecting people and communities affected by breast cancer. “It’s important for those diagnosed with breast cancer – no matter where they are on their journey – to know they are not alone,” says Kirsten. “Our members benefit from connecting with others who understand what they are going through, whether it’s through our Online Network, attending a BCNA event, or reading the personal stories of others diagnosed or seeking support via our free Helpline.

“It’s these connections that can make a real difference to people’s experiences and ensure they don’t walk a challenging path alone,” she says.
